I called first thing Monday to notify the staff at Seaport Motors of what had occurred and the receptionist was very helpful and organised a time for a mechanic to inspect the vehicle. Initially, I was told it would be 2 weeks before the mechanic would have time to inspect due to a busy schedule. However, I receive a call back only 2 days later and the job had been completed and at a bargain price!

The car broke down as I was entering Portland which was still several hundred kilometers from home. The fan belt had snapped which was a critical component to keep the car cool and I could not continue on my journey until it was fixed.

I had my vehicle, a mitsubishi pajero towed into Seaport Motors after I broke down 40kms out of Portland,3 mechanics lifted the bonnet and started the engine, it ran fine (because it had cooled down) they checked the oil dipstick and it was fine,I was in the workshop and observed what they checked, at "NO TIME" did any mechanic take the radiator cap off and check the coolant level. A young mechanic took the car for a test drive, I was sitting in the passenger seat, the car ran and drove fine, (as the engine temp was still low) he commented to me "that the car was running fine and he coudn't find anything wrong with it". when we returned to the workshop 3 other mechanics checked the engine while revving it up, there comment to me was there was a very slight, big end bearing noise, but this was expected for the amount of kms the engine had done. The engine never used any oil and ran beautifully for the 3 years I have owned it.I told them I lived in Dunolly approx 300kms away and advised me to drive it home and take it easy. I got 8 kms out of Portland and the engine started running rough and smoke started to come out of the bonnet and I pulled over and turned the engine off this time it would not start when it cooled down, again I ran the tow truck company "again" "Ace Towing' who by the way were very helpful, and he towed my car back to Seaport Motors. They told me they were very busy, and would not be able to look at the car for 2 weeks.I decided this was too long to wait and my friend hired a car trailer and drove down to Portland and trailered the car back to my mechanic " Maryborough Exhaust and 4wd Centre".The first thing he did was check the coolant level in the radiator and it was completley empty, after filling the radiator and doing an engine oil and filter change found that the coolant was pouring out of a heater hose T connector. Had just one of the so called mechanics checked my radiator it would have saved me having to buy a new engine at a cost of over $5000.00. I am a pensioner and had to beg and borrow to have my car fixed and it has placed me in severe financial hardship. I contacted Sean the workshop manager of Seaport Motors 2 weeks ago, and after our discussion did admit to me liability, for not checking the coolant level and stated he wasn't going to pay for the whole engine, he was going to contact me with an offer, he never had the courtesy to call me back, so I rang him today, and now has decided to withdraw any compensation that ther company could have avoided if they had done their job properly in the first place, I have started proceedings with VCAT and will update you on the outcome..

It was a Sunday evening when this occurred and no where was open in the small country town to ask for assistance. I took a chance by leaving my car at Seaport Motors without any previous appointment for the repair to be done.
